Pope Joan Portrait (work in progress)

Creating a portrait of Pope Joan using illustration and collage.  Inspired by medieval drawings and patterns and textures.

Pope Joan became the only woman Pope by disguising herself as a man. As legend goes, she went into labour during a parade.  When the crowd found out that she was a woman, she and the baby were stoned to death.
